A number of our members have indicated in the past weeks that they would like to see regular announcements of volunteer opportunities. Many would like to volunteer, even though they might have limited time, but don’t know what talents and skills we require.

Therefore the list of Conference opportunities recently posted is the first of these notices.

Conference Volunteer Opportunities

We have a number of opportunities to help with the 2010 Pikes Peak Writers Conference, April 23 – 25. Among these are:

  • Session Moderators
  • Read & Critique Moderators
  • Assistance with registration
  • Door Monitors
  • Transportation
  • Pre-conference package preparation
  • and… more as final planning is completed.

Requirements to work as a Conference Volunteer:

  • You must be a member in good standing* of Pikes Peak Writers
  • You must be registered for the conference.
  • – those with prior experience in certain positions will be given priority in selection

How to volunteer:

  • Complete the online application
  • In addition to checking other jobs you might be interested in, check the Other box and in the explanation field enter 2010 PPWC and the positions (from the list above) that you are interested in.

Question About the Tag Box

Q: I’ve been a volunteer. How come my name doesn’t show up in the tag box?

A: The names in the tag box are volunteers who have won one of the following awards: Pikes Peak Writers Volunteer of the Year, Pikes Peak Writers Conference Volunteer of the Year, NewsMagazine Reporter of the Year, and Special and Legacy Awards. Once a volunteer has won one of these awards, their name is tagged for each post in which it appears.

We appreciate all of our volunteers, which is why we created this Volunteer Wall site, and our award winners are those who have gone truly above and beyond in their service to Pikes Peak Writers. At some point, when time is available, we’d like to create a tagging mechanism for all multiple-year volunteers.

Who Can Volunteer?

Q: Who can volunteer for Pikes Peak Writers’ conference and other events.

A: Our insurance and by-laws require that all volunteers be members in good standing* of the Pikes Peak Writers organization. All members can complete a volunteer application to let us know about your interests and availability.


*in good standing means that the member’s annual dues are current
